“They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky.
They’re altogether ooky, the Townsend Family.”

Alexandra and Tommy’s wedding was a dream come true that I stumbled into. Alexandra posted in a local facebook group that I’m in, with an inspiration photo for her wedding invitations. We started talking and the rest went from there.

When she described the vibe she was looking for as “Victorian gothic dinner party seance on All Hallows Eve that you might not survive” I knew it would be the wedding invitation suite of my dreams. We had so much fun working together, and I was thrilled when she sent me her photos for the blog.

I had her tell me a little more about their wedding day and they story, which is included below, along with their stunning photos.

THEIR COLOR SCHEME – BLACK WITH POPS OF DEEP PURPLE AND GOLD

From Alexandra

Our wedding was a dreamy, romantic gothic wedding in the mountains of Kentucky. Our wedding day was completely unique to us, our love story, and our interests. When describing the vibe of our wedding I often used the descriptor of “Victorian gothic dinner party seance on All Hallows Eve that you might not survive.”

The Stone House at Silvercreek is a beautiful, historic property nestled in Richmond, KY. Established in 2021, it is owned by a queer couple who is committed to serving all couples, but passionate about making sure queer people feel like they don’t have to leave the state to get married in a queer friendly environment. The stone farmhouse on the property was built in the 1700s and the barn on the property is a tobacco barn. Megan, one of the owners, said that one of the previous owners of the property had dual PhDs in art history and architecture and restored the farm house to 90% period accuracy. The original part of the farmhouse serves as dressing suites.

There was an addition added later and now provides overnight accommodations. Our entire bridal party and their partners spent the night at the farmhouse the night before our wedding day to have one last party together. It was the venue of our dreams and the only place we toured. As soon as we got in the car, as we buckled our seatbelts, we looked at each other and said “this is the place!” Between the gorgeous views and the owners being absolute angels, we couldn’t have asked for more. We made genuine friends with them and have helped with the free queer micro wedding event they held in December 2024.

Tell me about your love story

We technically met at UK when we were undergraduate students but were always just outside of each other’s orbits. I can still remember the first time I saw a picture of him on a classmate’s Facebook and was just wowed by him. I always thought he was way too cool for me though and he had a girlfriend at that time.

We followed each other on social media though and connected over the wellbeing of a mutual friend in February 2020. Shortly thereafter, COVID-19 started picking up steam. So I sent him a message on Twitter that said “would it be weird if I slid into your DMs?” because I figured the world was ending and I had nothing to lose. He came over to watch a cult documentary and drink barefoot wine while the world burned and he kinda just didn’t go home after that.

Pin these for later

Fast forward to June 2020, we’ve been dating for a couple of months and I already said “I love you” during the Season 12 finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race. I have a mental breakdown from being trapped inside and decide I want to start making candles. He’s a musician used to playing gigs in dive bars and is also going crazy. So we started a candle business that went insane. In our first 6 months of business, we did $30,000 in sales. Our tiny but mighty business should not have been successful but it was. Due to career pivots we had to step away but now we are rebranding and coming back and still have so many loyal clients.

Editor’s Note: Alexandra and Tommy’s candle business is amazing and gothy and everything my spooky heart wants. You can shop their candles here. As a bonus, you’re shopping small and local.

Tommy is the best person I know – he also plays video games to raise money for UK Children’s Hospital and strives to help anyone who may need his help. He is generous, kind, and so funny. Most of our time together is spent laughing about everything and nothing at all.
On his side, he’s told me that he always appreciates how thoughtful I am and how I try to make everything and everyone around me better.
